Metis - One Love 15 August 2007 Metis is female Japanese reggae singer and musician. However, she first appeared as an R&B artist in 2003 and would release two indie albums in three years: ANSWER and MUSIC, which in 2009 were re-released as a two-disc combination. In 2006 Metis signed with the label Nippon Crown. This is when her music made a decisive shift in the direction of reggae. I don’t know how much of that change to attribute to Nippon Crown—who primarily works with J-Pop artists—or by Metis herself, who thoroughly embraced the new reggae direction regardless. Metis released three albums while at Nippon Crown:1. One Love2. One Heart3. One SoulThe latter two are available via existing torrents here. So I am just filling out the trio by providing the first album.Of the three I would say that One Love is the most reggae-influenced. Metis’ origins with R&B did not simply vanish. They gradually reappeared in her music as time went on, very similar to lecca in that respect. In fact, even on One Love you can hear some of the R&B influence.Metis’ uncommonly deep vocals and her talents as a musician, particularly on the saxophone, put her in an unmistakable and most importantly entertaining position in Japanese music. In 2009 she signed with Island Records Japan but continues to create the same overall flavor of music: a modern Japanese reggae that blends with R&B, perhaps more at a lyrically level than anything else.I hope you enjoy the album, and as always I welcome any requests! Lullatone - Soundtracks for Everyday Adventures 1 January 2011 Lullatone is a Nagoya-based husband and wife duo known for their self-titled pajama-pop. Shawn Seymour of Lullatone met his future wife Yoshimi Tomida during college in the United States. When Tomida, a foreign exchange student, was returning to Japan Shawn decided to go with her, and the two married in 2005. The name Lullatone comes from Shawns initial practice of working on composing quiet lullabies at night so as not to wake up his wife. Together they have created a number of soothing, relaxing albums, such as Soundtracks for Everyday Adventures.And let me add that no Japanese group has more blunt, verbose, accurate song titles than Lullatone. For example, one song from this album: "Riding a Bike Down a Big Hill and Taking Your Feet Off of the Pedals." Pure genius.

Head Phones President - Vary 25 April 2003 The metal/nu-rock band Head Phones President is perhaps best known for their vocalist: Anza Ohyama. She was the first stage actress to play the role of Sailor Moon in the Sailor Moon musicals, also performing that role longer than every actress who has followed since. Anza attempted a solo music career after leaving theater. But in 2000 she began working with guitarist Hiro on a completely different style of music for her anyways, and that collaboration would go on to become Head Phones President. Vary is their first album. It is not as polished as their more recent work such as the album Stand in the World from 2012, but it is still a great listen, and interesting when compared against their later work, particularly the Pobl Lliw self-cover album from 2010.
